I love your comment about having the time to learn now that you don't have grad classes to get in the way! (This, is from someone that teaches grad classes...and agrees with you completely)

You are so right on with your beginning of this journey. Take your time and try everything, but always ask yourself, what is the purpose of using a new tool.
There are so many tools we have used and set aside after more scrutiny. That is NOT a bad thing. That is using all our higher level thinking skills and making choices.
One of my all time favorites even after one year is VoiceThread.
Hope to see you back again at WOW2.

Take your time, Amie. This can be a confusing community for the newcomer. Don't feel like you have to get it all at once. One of the things that initially impressed me is that they're so approachable. While they're giants in Twitter and on podcasts and in Ustream, they're just regular people. Most of them are very nice, extremely helpful, and extraordinarily welcoming.

I would recommend a headset before a webcam, though, if Skype is the goal. Even a cheap $10 headset will make a dramatic improvement for audio conferencing, and you can always add video later.

Welcome to the adventure!
